RLSS NPLQ Lifeguard

Black Diamond Health UK provides a variety of lifeguard courses in Yorkshire under the guidance from the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS).

  • These include the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) EDITION 8, which is the national standard qualification in the UK for staff members who are required to supervise a pool as part of their role.  Candidates on the RLSS NPLQ EDITION 8, are required to undertake a minimum of 39 hours training. A formal assessment by external assessors determines the candidates successful completiton of the course. Some of the subjects covered in this course include; water rescues, spinal casualty management, Cardio Pulmanory Resuscitation (CPR), first aid and casualty management along with the theory and understanding of the running of a pool or leisure facility.
  • The National Rescue Award for Swim Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC), is an award designed for candidates who supervise programmed swimming activities, under the control of a qualified lifeguard.  The course covers areas such as risk assessments, class management, safety, first aid and water skills to allow candidates to supervise their specific, programmed swimming activities.
  • Bronze Medallion courses are recognised as the flagship award for lifesavers. This award develops the candidates fitness, knowledge, understanding, skill and judgement. The course includes theory and practical based training elements along with course materials for Bronze Medallion and Lifesaving training. Successful candidates receive a medallion and certificate.
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED), courses provide candidates with hands on practical and theory based training in the use of an AED. An Automated External Defibrillator is recognised as a critical link in the chain of survival of a casualty and this course provides candidates with approved certification to use an AED.
